About Us

Advance Construction Scotland has grown rapidly since it was launched by Seamus Shields in 1993. By 2003 the company was turning over £8 million and this year is projected to hit the £28 million mark.

The growth is a direct result of the strong work ethic embedded in the company by its founder and the committed focus on quality workmanship and excellent customer service.

Employees are chosen for their attitude as well as their ability, for their values as well as their skills, for their desire to innovate and learn as well as their experience.

“Everyone knows people are key to the success of a business,” says Managing Director Seamus Shields. “But not everyone follows up with a set of fundamental business principles to underpin that belief and leverage it to grow the business.

“The calibre of our people is the reason we are so successful today.”

The result is a highly motivated and dedicated workforce committed to quality workmanship and excellent customer service.

Declan Shields, Construction Director has a strong focus on the quality of the workmanship as well as the client relations and says, “For me working at Advance Construction is all about quality – a quality job and a quality service to our clients. It’s what delights clients and differentiates Advance Construction Scotland from its competitors.”

All 270 employees at Advance Construction have been carefully hand picked, then trained and are continually encouraged to go the extra mile for customers. The strong work ethic and family values instilled across the company by founder Seamus Shields are inherent in every employee.

“Our diversity and adaptability means we maintained our turnover despite economic fluctuations,”
explains Finance Director Tom Dignall. “Our client base has increased significantly, and Advance Construction is well on track to continue this impressive growth pattern in the future.”

Advance Construction Scotland first started trading with one digger and a few site personnel. Dogged determination saw the company win its first two clients, J B Bennett and Cruden. It’s a clear sign of the company’s successful approach that both remain satisfied clients of Advance Construction to this day.

“We believe in listening to our customers’ expectations of our staff, and then we devise a training programme to ensure we can meet that,” says David Wilson. “It’s important to us to give our employees the very best training available, and then support them every step of the way to ensure they achieve the necessary skills, relevant certification – and of course job satisfaction.”

Success has clearly stemmed from consistently winning new business and forming strong partnerships with existing customers. But attention to detail and a drive to succeed by delivering the very best in service means customers are happy to work with Advance Construction again and again.
